Tour Details

The mountain Sornfelli (725 m) is located on Streymoy, Faroe Island. Sornfelli is about 12 km from the capital Tórshavn, but on road it is about 20 km.

In 1958 the Faroese Parliament gave NATO permission to build a military organization up in Sornfelli. In the summer of 1963 under the Cold War, NATO put up a radar where they could get control of the air and sea territory around the north atlantic ocean.

In January 2007 they shut down radar and 15. November they stopped with all operation with NATO.
